AGM 2023

Our 2023 AGM went very well on Saturday 15th July, thanks to all those who attended. Here are the key points.

After steering us successfully through the last few years, including all the challenges of the pandemic, Jess is standing down as Chair.  She was thanked for all she has done for the group, which has included initiatives like History Walks, more general walks and restarting the Discussion Group (which we hope to do more with as time allows).

The new committee is:
Chair – Rich
Treasurer – Julia
Secretary – Tim
Committee members – Jess, Jamie, Martin
SACRE Representative – Ben

We continue to represent Humanists in various educational settings. Ben attends Plymouth’s Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) as a humanist (and has voting rights), Martin is actively involved with the University of Plymouth’s Pastoral and Spiritual Support team, and Tim’s school visits are even more in demand (19 schools were visited over the last 12 months, and 1500 children heard about humanism from him).

Tim was also involved in last year’s Interfaith Week events, has recently spoken to a local U3A group, and represented us at Plymouth’s commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day.

Finding speakers remains a challenge, and any ideas you have would be gratefully received.  As always, thanks to our members for their support, which makes all of this activity possible.
