Winter 25/26 update

We took our usual break from talks in December, but our end of year buffet in the Fortescue was well attended and we raised £135 for Plymouth Pride. A cafe social between Christmas and the New Year at the Box was similarly successful and gave people a chance to meet up during a rather quiet period of the year.

Our 2026 series of talks got off to a great start in January, with Professor Richard Thompson speaking to us about plastic pollution in the Ocean. Over forty people joined us to hear him.

At the beginning of February we had a very enjoyable Sunday Brunch, followed by a Death Cafe a few days later run jointly with the Pastoral and Spiritual Care Team at the University of Plymouth. Our Discussion Group also had a meeting in February, which debated ‘Should children under 16 in the UK be barred from using Social Media?’ and  ‘Is recycling worthwhile?’ Finally, our traditional Darwin Day meal at Veggie Perrin’s was as well attended as normal

We were really sorry to learn that the B-Bar was closing from the end of March. They’ve been incredibly supportive of us, as well as Scibar Plymouth and Plymouth Skeptics in the Pub before us, for which we are extremely grateful. Their closure will be a great loss too for the local music and arts scene. We wish all the team there the best for the future. We will need a new venue from April onwards – we’re looking at options, but any suggestions would be gratefully received.
