Our first talk of 2023 was from our Secretary, Tim Purches. Tim has been a volunteer school speaker for six years, and he talked his experiences over that time.
After telling us about how he became a school speaker, he then gave us some facts and figures about how many schools he has visited and how many children he has spoken too. He also told us about what sort of schools he goes into and how the requests come to him. The main part of the talk was a walk through of the presentation he gives to primary school children, showing the points he is trying to get across and how he tries to make his talk as engaging as possible so that the children can retain the key aspects of humanism, while not getting too distracted.
