Humans and Evolution

Our June 2013 talk was from Dr Caitlin Kight, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Exeter, freelance science editor, blogger and writer, and the host of Wild Side, a science-themed radio show broadcast by Cornwall's 'The Source 96.1 FM'

We'd previously enjoyed her husband, Dr Sasha Dall, talking to us about bees and evolution, so 25 people turned up to hear Dr Kight  discuss with us how humans can act as a selection pressure to drive the evolution of wildlife.    Focusing on organisms as small as bacteria and as large as elephants, she showed us how human activities have affected animal evolution, and explored the implications of these effects on the future.  The evening ended with a stimulating question and answer session.
