Plymouth's Housing Crisis

Our final talk before our regular summer break was from Jack Spooner from Shelter.
Shelter is a national charity that offers support to those facing housing issues and homelessness, as well as campaigning to end homelessness and bad housing in Great Britain. Jack spoke about the situation in Plymouth and what Shelter is doing to help those affected.
In particular he talked about: private renting in Plymouth (covering renters rights, the sort of cases Shelter see and what they are doing to improve conditions); social housing (covering the shortage of properties/ the waiting list, how social housing benefits individuals, communities and the economy and evictions by housing associations); issues around temporary accommodation (The challenges this is putting on people in this situation and the cost to society); and short-term lets (the rise in holiday homes in the region and the impact on communities)

The talk was followed by a very interesting discussion.  At the end we collected £55 to support Shelter's work
