Austerity’s Victims

Our first talk of 2022 was on an important, but sadly neglected and misunderstood topic.

Neil Carpenter came to talk to us about his book, ‘Austerity’s Victims’, which is based on his work as a volunteer advocate for Cornwall Advocacy. He told us how adults with a learning disability have been badly affected by UK government austerity measures since 2010, giving many examples of how people he has tried to help have been suffering. This is not only financially, but also in the support services and activities they need to make their lives bearable.  Sadly, things seem to be getting worse rather than better.

His book is an attempt to bring their situation more into the open, and we wish him luck with his efforts.
