Persecution of Humanists in Nigeria - Dr Leo Igwe on the case of Mubarak Bala

Our second online talk of 2020 was a much more international affair. Dr Leo Igwe spoke to us at the beginning of June from Nigeria about the persecution of Humanists in his country, and in particular about the case of Mubarak Bala, president of the Nigerian Humanist Association, arrested over allegations that he insulted the Prophet Muhammad on social media.

Dr Igwe spoken with passion about problems faced by Humanists in his country, where they face far more difficulties that here in the UK.  The talk was followed by an extensive Q&A where we were able to learn more about the many issues being addressed by the Humanist community in Nigeria.  Forty people joined us for the talk, from as far away as New Zealand.
