As a group we:
- Provide a community and support for those with a Humanist outlook (which includes atheists and agnostics) in Plymouth and the surrounding area.
- Promote the values that Humanists hold to be important: rationalism, scientific thought, ethics and creativity.
- Organise events open to everyone in the Plymouth area that are engaging, entertaining, educational and uplifting.
- Represent humanists and people with similar values in education and other areas of society.
- Make an active contribution to the wider community through volunteering and other activities.
We have nine talks a year, with past speakers including representatives from Humanists UK, the National Secular Society, Faith to Faithless, the Howard League for Penal Reform, and the Universities of Plymouth and Exeter, among many others. We also organise social and cultural events, including brunches, countryside walks, a book club, cinema trips, and popular meals at Christmas and to celebrate Darwin’s birthday in February. We maintain social links with other regional Humanist groups.
