Percy Bysshe Shelley: A Humanist Out of Time

We were delighted in October to be able to provide a speaker for the 2017 Plymouth Literary Festival. John Webster, a committee member of Oxford Humanists, gave a talk entitled “Percy Bysshe Shelley: A Humanist Out of Time”.

John has produced a DVD, “Shelley's Golden Years in Italy”, which is narrated by renowned poet Benjamin Zephaniah. Alongside clips from this, setting Shelley’s words to music, John talked about his time in Italy, with special reference to his humanist outlook and progressive politics.

The talk was well received and there was time afterwards for a discussion with the audience about Shelley’s life and works.
