Fawcett Plymouth

The Fawcett Society has been campaigning for gender equality for over 150 years.  Yet as Rhea Brooke demonstrated at the start of her talk in July, many inequalities remain between men and women, and their effects harm members of both genders.

Rhea then went on to give a brief history of the Society, telling us about some of the many battles for women’s rights it has fought and the sexist attitudes it has faced.  Such attitudes seem laughable nowadays, but were all too real at the time.

After a break there was a time for good debate with the audience on the problems of gender discrimination that remain in our society, their causes and potential solutions. It was good to see that over 30 people came along to hear about such an important topic.
