A book about what happens to its protagonist after he dies, and how he meets people from his past, all dead themselves, in heaven may not seem good material for Humanists to discuss.

Certainly the more hard line amongst us were not keen on pandering to people’s vague ‘spiritual’ beliefs.  But 'The Five People you meet in Heaven’ is a popular book and tackles the perennial question of meaning in our lives and how we connect to others around us in significant ways.  Our discussion also showed that, misgivings aside, Humanists appreciate power of imagination and fantasy in creating stories to investigate those themes.
